Dr. Minckler is currently studying the causes of optic nerve injury in patients with glaucoma as well as the effectiveness of treating glaucoma patients with aqueous shunts, which are tiny silicone tubes inserted within the eye that act like valves to drain fluid from the eye. His team is also studying other glaucoma treatments, such Trabectome surgery, where a miniaturized instrument is used to remove a small strip of diseased eye tissue inside the eye to open access to the drainage system of the eye. Dr. Minckler earned his M.D. degree at the University of Oregon Medical School. He became board certified in anatomic pathology at USC. Additionally, he completed a master’s degree in science in Biomedical and Clinical Investigations at USC. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in various medical and scientific journals. |
