The Statistics are Eye Opening!

The Alliance for Aging Research and National Alliance For Eye and Vision Research stated in a September 2007 report:
- 38 million Americans suffer from blindness, low vision, or an age-related eye disease. That number is expected to grow to around 50 million by 2020.
- Every year, 200,000 Americans develop advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – one every three minutes.
- 6.5 million Americans over the age of 65 have severe visual impairment that threatens to limit their mobility, independence, and quality of life.
Eye research is conspicuously under-funded in the United States. It is for this reason that we must come together to address this growing issue.
The Discovery Eye Foundation is working to continue eye research and patient education programs to lessen patient's suffering and to find cures for these debilitating diseases. |
