The project, funded by grants from the Lincy and Discovery Eye Foundations, includes researchers and clinicians from the University of Copenhagen as well as multiple institutions in the United States.

The data presented showed that the group has made excellent progress in the large animal preclinical testing of stem cells transplants and bioengineering of the diseased retina. Much of the discussion was devoted to the design and construction of novel instrumentation that will be crucial to the implementation of this new technology in the clinic.

In addition, Dr. Klassen reported that work with transgenic retinal progenitor cells is also advancing and that the ability to culture human cells for extended time periods has recently improved. For more information see "They Call It Pink Tank".
